Houghton Conquest is a sleepy village in rural Bedfordshire. The remains of Houghton House still stand proud to the north of the village. This village is just over 7 miles from the warm and welcoming city of Bedford, which is bursting with culture and history. The Great River Ouse runs right through the Bedford city centre, providing the opportunity to relax and enjoy tea in quaint riverside cafes. You can do so perhaps while taking in a rowing regatta, or why not take in a show at the Bedford Corn Exchange? There are also a number of riverside walking routes for those who enjoy the outdoors, including The Embankment. This is a mile-long footpath which takes you through beautiful tree-lined parkways. Bedford Park is on the outskirts of the city, and has a number of sports facilities. These options include tennis courts, a swimming pool and a bandstand which hosts outdoor music events.
Transport
The nearest train station to Houghton Conquest can be found at Stewartby. Here, you can change at Bletchley for onward travel to London and the north. Bedford city itself also has two train stations, from which you will find connections to destinations including London, St Albans and cities in the Midlands, including Leicester and Sheffield.
