Morris Homes Central Limited, based in Rugby have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Technical Manager to play a pivotal role in the development and success of the business.

The Role

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will be responsible for project managing new developments from acquisition to final adoption, including:

  • To be ‘second in command’ of the Technical Department, reporting to the Technical Director and coordinating the workload and performance of the wider team.
  • Extensive experience of engineering in residential development, including S104 / 38 / 278 works, utilities, remediation, topography and foundations.
  • Detailed knowledge of the planning system in relation to engineering matters.
  • Able to prepare engineering appraisals of new land opportunities and to ensure that bids are reflective of site requirements and all risks are identified and suitably quantified.
  • Ability to check consultant’s designs for compliance, correctness and the application of value engineering principles is essential.
  • Management of external consultants in terms of cost control, quality and programme. Including the abitlity to negotiate with consultants to ensure that our cost, quality and programme requirements are successfully met at all times.
  • Proactive attitude, the ability to propose effective and practical solutions and to see challenges through to a positive conclusion.
  • Awareness of the requirements and time pressures of other disciplines and able to work collaboratively, building professional relationships across various teams.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an awareness of the ‘bigger picture’ i.e. cause and effect in relation to the solutions / designs proposed and the associated costs and timescales, plus how these would impact on other disciplines and the delivery requirements of the business.

The Person:

  • Ability to lead by example at all times and mentor junior members of the technical team
  • Ability to operate with the flexibility to adjust and react to the requirements of the business
  • Previous experience as a Senior Technical Manager within the industry  
  • Degree in Civil Engineering related subject
  • Experience in managing all technical elements of house building
  • Excellent personal organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills particularly when delivering information to senior members of staff
  • Ability to resolve issues quickly and arrive at the correct solution without compromising overall business objectives
  • Able to work as part of a team and ensure that business needs are put before personal preferences
